Bismillah...
Bismillaahirrahmaanirrahiim..
Out of all the time in the world, i pick up this moment to start writing my own blog. Yes, after all these years refusing the idea, it --out of the blue-- clicks me that this can be a way of sharing some thoughts, lessons, and positive experience I've been through. I know, you might think, "isn't that EXACTLY what people have been using blogs for????" Oh well..
Now, let me start this blog of mine by mentioning the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. I've just learnt something the other day. I found it absolutely fascinating, really, that I would take the risk of telling everyone what they might have known for years. So, please bear with me. Also,if i make any mistakes in explaining it, please correct me.
What is it with "bismillaahirrahmaanirrahiim"?
If we look at the meaning of the words:
'bi' =with; something to start with. ism= name. And so, saying bismillah(= in the name of Allah) when we about to do something means that we: 1. ask permission from the owner (i.e. Allah); 2.acknowledge Allah's authority as ilah, whom we worship.
'rahmaan' relates to provisions or sustenance in this world, eg air, food, drink, wealth, etc. The form in which it is used in the sentence suggests that these provisions are given for everyone, regardless they are moslems or not.
'rahiim' relates to guidance in life. It is something that consistent and everlasting. From the form of the word, it is indicated that this guidance is specific for the believers only.
Combining them together, when we say "bismillaahirrahmaanirrahiim", other than asking for Allah's permission and acknowledging Allah's authority as the only One to be worshipped, we also: 3. ask Allah for provisions/sustenance in this world; 4. ask for Allah's guidance so that we can be successful in our life in this world and the eternal life in hereafter.
Subhanallah.. Glory be to Allah. This sentence is simple yet very deep in meanings. What more can we ask? My brothers and sisters in Islam, let us start every single of our action with "bismillaahirrahmaanirrahiim"... Indeed, Islam is a way of life.
